Vigil for Democracy and Rally for a Paper Audit Trail

Anyone interested in the paperless voting issue, please try to attend this event, and forward the info to anyone else you can think of! If you're interested in attending and would like to carpool with other DFH folks, please leave a note in the "Comments" to this entry (click on "Comments" below).

Unfortunately, the judge ruled against TrueVoteMD in the lawsuit attempting to require a paper trail in November, but all hope is not lost. The Maryland Court of Appeals has agreed to hear the appeal on an expedited basis. The hearing will be on September 14, 2004 -- more details to follow. But in the meantime, please try to attend the event described below.

State Board of Elections Monthly Meeting

Thursday, September 9th

12:30pm

151 West Street, Annapolis, MD

For the 4th month in a row, the Campaign for Verifiable Voting will hold our monthly Vigil for Democracy at the monthly meeting of the State Board of Elections. We will be rallying to restore integrity to our election system by calling on the Board to allow all voters to verify the accurate recording of their ballot choices and to enable a viable recount and audit of the electronic voting machine tallies. Without a voter-verified paper audit trail, all elections in Maryland will be tainted and the accuracy of results will be questionable. This type of voting system is unacceptable in a real democracy.

Help us have a good presence on September 9th. There should be considerable press coverage of this Board meeting because of the impending firing of Administrator Linda Lamone.
