About the debate
Last night I went to DC to see Gov. Dean. During his talk he made a very insightful point. He said (and I paraphrase) that even though most polls show Kerry and Bush in a dead heat, Bush's unfavorables are so high, people are just waiting to kick him out of office. That many people don't make up their minds two months, two weeks, nor two days before walking into the voting booth. They make up their minds IN the voting booth.
All Kerry has to do, in the debates, and beyond them is to show he's not a scary choice. He doesn't have to crush Bush in the debates, just show that he's "presidential" and worth their vote.
Bush's unfavorables already show many people want to fire his lame ass. Kerry just has to show he's a better alternative.
I think he went a long way in doing just that tonight.
